About

I’ve always followed curiosity wherever it leads. That path has taken me through film archives in Berlin, classrooms at UC Berkeley, and the Society of Fellows at Harvard.

I grew up in Sydney, Australia, and moved to the United States to pursue a PhD in history at UC Berkeley. While completing my doctorate, I made a discovery in a Berlin archive that changed my life: evidence of Hollywood studios cooperating with the Nazi regime. That research became my first book, The Collaboration: Hollywood’s Pact with Hitler (Harvard University Press), and it launched my career as a historian and author. I was later elected to the Harvard Society of Fellows — one of the most selective academic fellowships in the country.

But I’ve always loved teaching just as much as researching. At Berkeley, I taught hundreds of students and mentored dozens through major writing projects. Since 2015, I’ve focused on helping high school students tell their stories through college essay coaching — a process that’s surprisingly rich and personal when it’s done well.

I now live in Los Angeles, though Paris remains my favorite place in the world.

This site brings my work together — not in a tidy package, but in an honest way.

If you’re here because you’re curious about a book, an essay, or my coaching services — welcome. And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
